Responsive Laziness

Personal Notes from An Event Apart, Boston, 2015
Laziness in the Time of Responsive Design by Ethan Marcotte, Author, Responsive Web Design @beep

Will frameworks be adequate in the future? They are prescriptive and start with a large size and scale down. Our design should strive to support an infinite array of devices.

Start designing from a network of small layout systems and scale up from there.

Look at breakpoints as defending your content. Opportunities for breakpoints:

  1. Sevens
  2. Drift
  3. Pinches

We’re seeing the need to hide navigation, but maybe we’re hurting usability.

Design the transaction independent of the interface. Today, A well crafted design has to be agnostic by default. Design for reach rather than platform.
